Sunday Blatherings - February 23rd - What a Different a few Days Can Make

On Wednesday of this week I went to work with a completely clean car and when I left work at 4p.m., this is what my car looked like.  That added to our (2) week total of about 28" of snow!

This second photo is the side of our driveway -- just no place for them to plow more snow, but Wednesday's forecast is more snow:)  On a positive note we enjoyed (2) days of 50 degree sunshine, so some melting occurred.

Aren't all of you 80 degree weather people jealous?

Freckles had his annual check up on Friday along with our other male cat Buddy. While Buddy was a purrfect patient, and appears very healthy for 13 according to the vet, he had an unexplained weigh loss of almost a pound so we have to weigh him weekly.  Freckles, age 12 - on the other hand was an awful patient. He has hissed at the vet and vet tech in the past, but this year, he wanted a piece of their flesh....embarrassing. All they were able to do was weigh him (he gained 3 ounces) since last year and give him a rabies shot. So we're shipping him back to Vera Bradley:) He is a gentle giant in his element, but the dreaded crate brings out the worst in him.

New Books
I got (3) new books in the mail this past week, and all sound really good. Especially anxious to try the audios (Thank you Random House).
Wishing everyone a stress free week.

  1. I am hoping the snow we got the week before last is it for us this winter. We've been in the 70s here but it's going to cool off down to the 60s starting tomorrow.

Do any vets around you make house calls? That generally makes it easier for reluctant patients.

  2. I am so happy to live where there is no snow...even though I like visiting snowy places, I wouldn't want to live there. I hope your week ahead is less snowy.

I like your book stash...I have The Deepest Secret, and I'm wishing for Winter People.

    Enjoy...and here's MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES

  3. Our snow plow guy actually came over with a front end loader to move snow banks last week... there's just no place to put the stuff anymore! Thankfully we missed the Wednesday storm, but know we're all more than ready for spring.

I added The Winter People to my wish list this week - enjoy!

  4. I can relate to the snow issues. We did not get enough of it melted during the couple of nice days though and more is on the way. LOL re Freckles, don't like the dr. either.

  5. I have to say the two warm days have melted most of what was on the NYC streets and sidewalks (parks, etc are still blanketed) - you still have so much snow! I can relate to your vet woes - I took Prince this week and it was the longest hour I ever spent in the waiting room while he did battle with every other dog in the room!

  6. Poor Freckles. Nothing the vet isn't used to though. I heard a national news person say the words "polar vortex" yesterday and immediately switched to another channel. I'm so over this winter!
I've heard good things about The Winter People so I hope you love it.

  7. After some fairly nice weather, we woke up to more snow today. Sigh.

  9. There seems to be a theme this morning. More snow where I live too. Ugh!

  10. I just finished listening to Winter People. So creepy but sooo good. And the audio version is a winner, a wonderful performance.

The snow and cold feel endless here too. Just so you know, you aren't alone. :)

  12. Ohh the snow! Your car is almost covered! Have a great reading week! (I guess now's the time for The Winter People.)

  13. Yes, The Winter People is sure appropriate! Poor kitties, I hope the trauma is over now.

  14. We'll all be glad to see the backend of winter!

  15. Oh my word, that is a lot of snow to be greeted with. And as for your kitties vet visit, well, let's just say I feel like Freckles when I go to the doctors. I try to refrain from hissing and biting though, so far so good ;) Like the look of the books. Hopefully you will get no more snow but from our own weather forecast we are expecting more this week and I do hope it misses you all further north.

  16. That is a ton of snow. I can't imagine coming back to the car and seeing that.

Cats, in general, do not do well at the vet. They are such nervous creates. Mine used to foam at the mouth once he saw the exam table and then the vet would want to test for distemper.

  17. Our cat used to like going in the car until she got fixed... Now she thinks we are trying to kill her if she has to set foot in it for any length of times. They never seem to forget the vet...

  18. I'm so sorry about all that snow. It was the main reason we chose to retire to some place where we were certain we wouldn't see that stuff again. Here in northern California winter usually means occasional rain. We're short on that this year. We don't get many 80 degree days but today it did get to 79. That's not normal.

  19. Our Parker had to go to the vet on Saturday to make sure his condition is still under control--it is, thank goodness, but he has gained quite a bit of weight from the steroids he has to take. He's always been my slender cat, so it's quite a change for him. I hope Buddy doesn't lose any more weight!

Look at that snow! I'm perfectly content just seeing snow from the distance or in pictures. :-) The 80-degree temperatures here are making way for colder ones this week. We're supposed to get a "big" storm by Friday. I welcome it, but hope it is gone for Mouse's birthday. She really wants a jumper and if it rains, we'll have to cancel it.

I've heard nothing but great things about Winter People and it's making me want to read it soon. I do hope you like The Deepest Secret. I thought it was so good!

  20. Poor Freckles. My cats hate going to the vet too and run and hide when the crates come out. Then they spend the car ride to the vet wailing piteously and making me feel so very guilty.

  21. THat audio of WINTER PEOPLE looks like a must have...

  22. THE WINTER PEOPLE will be a perfect read with all that snow! =)

  23. Ogh! All that snow. I'm so over it. Your books all look good to me. When Scout was 10 she started losing weight and our vet said it was probably pre-cancer and maybe she had a year left. As you may remember since I just posted about her, she lived happily to 15 1/2, but she did continue to lose weight. I think the weight loss happens to older cats.
