First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros - French Leave; Anna Gavalda

Every Tuesday I host First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros where I share the first paragraph sometimes two from a book I am reading or thinking about reading soon.

French Leave; Anna Gavalda
Europa - 2011

"With one buttock in space and my hand still on the car door, I hadn't even had time to sit down and already my sister-in-law was nagging me; For heaven's sake...didn't you hear the horn? We've been here for ten minutes!

What do you think -- keep reading or pass?

  3. Wow - short and fun. I like it.

  4. Oh I dislike the sister-in-law already - nagging has to be one of the worst traits out there - I want to know more!

  5. If I had a sister-in-law like that, I'd ignore her honking too! The author did a good job of setting up conflict in just the first couple of sentences. I'd keep reading to find out what's going on.

  6. I wonder - is she always running late or has something happened to delay her? And the title? French Leave implies leave without permission - are they leaving in a hurry? Is that why the sister-in-law is so impatient? I do want to know.

    1. Gee, you read a lot more into that brief bit of info than I did. I must say I think it will be a fun read.

  7. Oh God, I hate the nagging that inevitably happens during a family road trip! It's a good beginning though because you're immediately wondering what's happening and why! My teaser this week is from 'Practical Magic' by Alice Hoffman. Thanks for sharing and for hosting :) I hope you have great week!

  11. Sounds like it could be fun... and it's a Europa. I'd keep reading!

  12. I would pass - the word, 'buttock' is off-putting, it makes me feel that the writing will be slight. I feel the same way about the cover, it looks like an airport book.

  13. I'd continue reading - I feel like there isn't much there in which to put the book down for.

  18. If you wouldn't date someone who sits in the car tooting the horn, you shouldn't accept it from a relative! I'd keep reading just to see how she copes!

I think I'd have to read a little more to make my mind up about this one.

  23. I think I'd want to just get right back out of the car and call it a day! I'm not fond of the nagger.
