March in Review

March has come and gone and although we did have a good amount of snow earlier in the month, I'm pleased it's pretty much gone now.  It was a busy months with birthdays for my daughter and DIL. We went to a few spring flower shows, visited museums, saw a live stage performance of Boeing Boeing which was hilarious and we went out to eat a lot.  I went to yoga only twice each week as our regular instructor was away for the month but, will be back to 3x/week starting this week.

A few new kids books sent to me by Candlewick Press

March was a very good reading month for me.  I read (13) books and posted short reviews for (12) of them so far. (34 Books YTD)

I've been noticing that I'm reading more books that take place outside of the US this year and more translated works as well.  In March my armchair travels took me to: Germany, Sweden, Russia, Korea, Japan, Pakistan, England, Finland, Iran and also, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts within the US.

I loved most of what I read as well but if I had to pick just (1) fiction and (1) NF it would be these (2)

  1. Looks like March was a good reading month for you! Every time I see A Gentleman in Moscow on your blog I have guilt that I haven't gotten to it yet.

  2. All great books! I started Gentleman in Moscow twice and am discouraged by the size of the book, but I'll get back to it! Happy reading in April.

  6. Oooh, I would love to take a yoga class 3 times a week. As it is, I only go once, but hopefully will add a second day soon. Not sure what I'll do once we're on the road a lot again...

I loved both of your best pics for the month, as well! Such great writing. Now to get to Pachinko and The Wife. I just finished A Ladder to the Sky and thought it was very, very good. Maybe not as good as The Heart's Invisible Furies, but very close. I read it in less than 4 days, which is pretty much a record for me.

  9. March was a month of book pizazz for you! How great.
So glad that you enjoyed A Gentleman in Moscow. I loved it, too.
And I also liked The Silent Patient, as you did.
And, I also see that you enjoyed the audio of Small Fry. I liked the audio version as well, and I thought Brennan-Jobs dove deeply, deeply into her recollections in a way that is a bit original for memoir, so for that I applauded it. But I think I would give it a 4--it was a long slog, despite the originality and the skilled story-telling she brought to the memoir.
Oh, gosh, I've wanted to read the John Boyne novel since last November when it came out. Will be interested to see how you like it. It does sound interesting.
Have a grand April! And only rain showers, please.
