Well it is day 3 into the New Year and I'm feeling lazy and I've been doing a whole lot of nothing around here. Ever have days, weeks like that? I actually have (3) books going (all holding my interest too) but have not finished any of them yet. The Hand Maid's Tale; Margaret Atwood; Gilded: How Newport Became America's Richest Resort; Deborah Davis, and the audio version of South of Broad; Pat Conroy.
I spent yesterday loading a lot of new audio books onto my computer and then transferring them to my IPOD for my future listening pleasure. We do have download ability from the library, but then you are tied into an expiration date, so I rather take the extra time and do it this way. I have about 50 of them stored now (I'm like a squirrel with their winter food supply).
I've also been working on updating my google reader. I found a few new blogs which I have enjoyed (some are new bloggers, some are just new to me) so I thought I'd mention them and maybe you'll want to visit. It's tough being a new blogger starting out as we all know and it's easy to feel frustrated unless your totally blogging purpose is a "me" thing. So here are a few blogs that I recently added to my Google reader:
- Rebecca at Booklady's Blog
- Debbie at Debbie's Book Bag
- Connie at Constance Reader
- Sherrie at Just Books
- Kristy at Just Another Book Blogger
- Susan at All the Pretty Pages
- Amy at Life By Candlelight
- Louise at Lous_Pages
- Stephanie D at Misfit Salon
- The English Teacher at Thinking of Thinking
Sometimes I think it's good to have a lazy day or three. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of finally getting around to Atwood this year. I hope you are enjoying The Hand Maid's Tale.
I love discovering new blogs. You've listed a few I already follow (all great blogs) and some that are new to me. You can bet I'll be checking them out!
Have a great week, Diane.
I'm looking forward to adding a few new bloggers to my GR this year too. I don't have anything planned for today (Sunday) but am quite dreading work tomorrow. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI like the imagery of being a squirrel with a nut hoarding books away...that describes me accumulating books before my 2010 book reading ban!
ReplyDeleteAnd that is wonderful to link to new bloggers ... I should do that sometime. I do read Rebecca and Connie and they are fantastic!
This weekend I realized that the blogs and websites listed in my google reader are simply too many that I don't really get to read most of them because it'll take a lot more time than what little I have left for reading books. So sadly I had to force myself to unsubscribe from many blogs. I guess I'll just visit their sites from time to time. But anyway, Diane, I kept yours on my list because you make book recommendations that are usually in-line with my tastes :)
ReplyDeleteI love lazy days and that's exactly what I've been doing for the last few. Friday and Saturday I read three books. Now that is decadent! How are you finding South of Broad?
ReplyDeleteThis year is starting of slow for me too. I'm reading a book that just isn't working for me. I'll be so glad when I finish it - hopefully today.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh good...I am not the only one who has not had much energy and haven't done much this past week.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the cat playing in the snow...what a great pic!!!
I am going to see if I can d/l from library to ereader the book you have listed regarding Newport..I am also from RI and it sounds interesting and informative especially for a native.
As for Sunday plans..laundry again, never seems to end..and then relaxing and reading. Have a great Sunday!

Thank you for adding me to your Google Reader, Diane! I need to organize mine better. I wish there were mre hours in the day for reading blogs - so much great content out there, if only I had the time!
ReplyDeleteWOW -- 50 audiobooks ready to go? I need some tips :)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to hearing which audio books you really enjoyed as I hope to listen to more books this year (but I know the narrator is so important to the overall listening experience).
Enjoy these lazy days --- mine will end all too quickly.
Mark...Thanks so much for following my blog. I agree it is very time consuming following too many blogs and not much reading gets done...LOL
ReplyDeleteWendy, Alice and Jenners, Thanks for checking out some of the new blogs I mentioned.
Kaye...I am reading enjoying the audio version of South of Broad (there are quite a few characters but it is not confusing so since I enjoy family sagas, this one fits the bill.
Kathy...hope your 2nd book of the year is a home run
Mash...Not sure if this book will be available for down load as it is really new, but worth checking it out.
Everyone...have a great Sunday!
Sounds like you had your own "bloggiesta" this weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to find new blogs; thanks for the list!
I LOVE the cat picture! Marvelous. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's been a very slow weekend for me. The weather sure doesn't help, but it's ok with me. I keep forgetting I can use my iPod/iPhone for audio books. What is wrong with me.
ReplyDeleteI like the squirrel analogy. Cute!!
Have a great day. :)
I have 2 audio books that I need to upload to iTunes then my iPod.
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying my lazy days. Haven't realized how truly tried I've been until now. So this slow pace is good.
Thanks for the new blog ideas; it is fun to visit, see what people are doing, and follow!
ReplyDeleteLazy days are nice. Today is my last day of vacation and I'm staying in lazy mode as long as I can.
ReplyDeleteI do the same as you with audiobooks. I get the CD versions from the library and download them to my ipod. I have one ipod nano just for audiobooks so it stays in my car. I have more than I can possibly listen to on there, but I like it that way. Much better than dealing with expiration dates on the downloadable versions.
Wow! Thank you so much for adding me to your post. I really appreciate it. I initially was hesitant about starting a blog and now I find that I am loving it. The support is much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI used to have an hour commute (one way!) to my school and therefore had two hours everyday to enjoy audiobooks. Now, I am a mere 6.2 KM from my school and the heat barely gets going on the drive. I miss the time I spent with my audiobooks and have yet to find a new way to incorporate them into my life. Good for you! 50, eh? wow.
Beth
Thanks for mentioning my blog. That's is so nice of you! I'll be back for the Sunday Salon next week when I have some real reading under my belt. I think I have way too many lazy days ;-) but it's also part of enjoying life. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanx for mentioning my new blog, Debbie's Book Bag. I'm really having a lot of fun with it and enjoying sharing my love of books with others. It is hard when you are first starting out, but I've been fortunate so far...
ReplyDeleteThanks for these new blogs.
ReplyDeleteMy entire weekend has been lazy mostly because we have an arctic blast blowing through here that doesn't make me want to venture out!! Hand Maid's Tale scared me!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear what you think of the Hand Maid's Tale because I have to read one of Atwood's books for a challenge so if you really like it I may choose that one! Have fun relaxing!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Handmaid's Tale. I read it last year. I need to read another book by Atwood.
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying the snow today and soon I'll be curling up on the couch with my book.
Have a great rest of the day!
Love the pcture of the cat in the snow. I've been doing nothing for the past week, also. I think it's the after Christmas blahs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the list of blogs. I'm going to check them out.
Diane, it's easy to spend more time reading blogs than reading books, especially with so many good ones out there (and plenty more to be discovered). When I started my book blog in May of 2008, I had no idea how many other book blogs there were!
ReplyDeleteOne of my reading goals in 2010 is to read something by Margaret Atwood.
Debbie and Kristy...my pleasure.
ReplyDeleteStaci....The Hand Maid's Tale is creeping me out a bit.
Suko...You are right about the addictiveness of blog hopping taking up precious reading time. I MUST snap out of it and hit the books...LOL
ReplyDeleteHi, Diane! Thanks so much for posting the links to these bloggers! It's always a joy to discover other bibliophiles!
ReplyDeletePeter...you are very welcome. (I plan to do this periodically). enjoy
ReplyDeleteMolly....Not sure what authors are your favorites but...some of my favorite audio books have been: The Commoner; Schwartz - The Art of Racing in the Rain; Stein - The Neighbor; Lisa Gardner; South of Broad; Conroy (in progress very good) - Michael Connelly, James Patterson and Stuart Woods have good readers too.
I can't wait to hear your thoughts on The Handmaid's Tale by Atwood. It is one of those books that have stuck with me for a long time and eventually I would like to reread it. Hope you have a great new year!
ReplyDeleteYou sound like me, squirreling away all your reads for the year. Now I have to stop collecting and get to reading!! I liked your picture by the way, very cute! Enjoy your lazy time.
