135 - The Neighbor; Lisa Gardner

Having read most of Lisa Gardner's books,
I was anxious to read her latest book:

This audio book thriller hooked me from the very beginning. Not one, but three wonderful readers, made the listening experience a real treat (Emily Card, Kirby Heyborne, and Kirsten Potter). This audio book thriller hooked me from the very beginning. Not one, but three wonderful readers, made the listening experience a real treat (Emily Card, Kirby Heyborne, and Kirsten Potter).

The setting is Boston's south side, where Sandra Jones, a twenty-three year old, wife, mother and teacher, goes missing sometime during the night while her four year old daughter, "Ree", is asleep, and her husband Jason is at work. Also missing is Mr. Smith, the family cat. There is no blood, no signs of forced entry, and the only sign of a possible struggle is a lamp that appears to have been knocked over.

The suspects are many: her husband, who is not acting like a worried, distraught spouse. A neighbor who is a registered sex-offender, her own father who has been absent from her life for years, a loner student she has shown interest in, and a former romantic involvement.

The story is full of edge of your seat suspense, and everyone seems to have something to hide. With twists and turns around every corner, this is one thriller that will keep you guessing. Even though the ending was not perfect, in , my opinion, and there was a bit too much profanity, this book did not disappoint. RECOMMENDED

  1. I enjoy Lisa Gardner's thrillers tremendously. I have listened to all of them on audio and I have to say it's almost as if they were written specifically for that purpose. Not a boring moment, I swear!

  5. I've seen this one a few times now, and I'm really intrigued by it (the premise is one I can't shake!). I've never read anything by this author, though, so I wasn't actually sure if it would be any good. Glad to hear it was! I'm going to put this one on my list of things to read!

  6. I haven't listened to many audio books, but somehow I think that this genre would be particularly suited for audio books. My mom listens to a lot of suspense/thrillers, and I am pretty sure Gardner is a favorite of hers. I will have to let her know that this one is triple narrated, and a great book as well. Thanks!
