Waiting on Wednesday - The Red Garden; Alice Hoffman

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine. What's your pick this week?  Here is mine:

The Red Garden; Alice Hoffman
Crown - January - 2011

Very little is being said about the story line of Alice Hoffman's January release, THE RED GARDEN , however, I was able to find this little blurb so --on my wish list it goes:

Classic Hoffman—small town, 300 years of history and secrets, a hint of magic (in this case, a garden where only red plants can grow).

I'm hoping this might be like Practical Magic - which I enjoyed.

  1. The cover looks enticing. I am one of few people who liked the movie Practical Magic more than the book. Perhaps if I had read the book first I would have enjoyed it more. I do like her writing style and would try her again. Can't wait to hear what you have to say about this book.

  3. This book is going straight onto my wish list-if the cover is any reflection of what is inside it looks great.

  14. Oh that sounds good... I just posted a review with magical realism and plants. Hothouse Flower. I do think you gave it a 5 star on goodreads? It was a fun read.

  15. I wonder why the mystery about the plot? I used to read all of her books but then stopped at one point and never went back. If this seems good, perhaps I'll pick her up again.

  18. It's really nothing like Practical Magic, and yet it does have the traditional Hoffman magical realism.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. It reminded me of how we really learn stories of people's lives, where you find out little pieces of a story that happened in real life, "once upon a time".
As usual with Hoffman, there is subtle humor and a lot of melancholy moments. But they are good moments of sadness!
