My 10 Book Bucket List

I saw this at Lilly's blog: Reading Extravaganza, but the original idea is slightly different and came from Pam at Bookalicio.us.

Like Lilly, my list consists of 10 books I  MUST read before I die.  If I could only read 10 more books, I think I'd take my chances, and read from my own shelves (I own 9/10) of these:

  1. The Master and Margarita; Mikhail Boulgakov
  2. The Woman in White; Wilkie Collins
  3. The Poisonwood Bible; Barbara Kingsolver
  4. Brazzaville Beach; William Boyd
  5. Garden of Eden; Hemingway
  6. Affinity; Sarah Waters
  7. The Wayward Bus; John Steinbeck
  8. I Am a Cat; Natsume
  9. Moonflower Vine; Jetta Carleton
  10. Into the Wilderness; Sara Donati
Have you read any of these? Did I make good choices?  How about your pick 10?

  1. Great list! I haven't read any of those, but I can foresee putting some of them on my wishlist!

Thanks for checking out my list, too!

  2. I haven't read any of these but there are some that are on my tbr pile. I'm hoping you've made good choices since I'm going to read them, too!

  3. Awesome titles you have there! I have only read Master and Margarita and The Woman in White. While they are completely different books they both certainly must be read. I also have Into the Wilderness on my shelves and really, really want to read it.

  4. I enjoyed the Poisonwood Bible - I'm not sure I'd say it is a must read before you die, but it was very good.

  5. Haven't read any of these except for The Woman in White and it was an amazing read! Good luck with your list.

  6. That's a great list, Diane. If I made a list like that, I'd be tempted to read the entire list right now. LOL

  7. I cannot do this one. I'd be too resentful if I picked a book I didn't love and it was one of the last ten I ever got to read. ;-)

  8. I've only read one of the ten - The Poisonwood Bible - and you're right, you must read it before you die. Of course, that gives you years to get it read.

  9. Fabulous list. Hard list to comply. Only reading 10 before I die!

  10. I might have read the Steinbeck book umpteen years ago, but it probably doesn't count, since I don't remember anything about it!

Like one of the other commenters...I wouldn't want to pick ten books and risk picking the wrong ones!

  11. #1 and #8 are on my reading bucket list too.

I have only read Affinity from your list and where I don't think it's a book you most definitely have to read before you die -I'll reserve that for Fingersmith- I did enjoy it and thought it was wonderfully claustrophobic.

I am glad to know about your blog too!

  14. Very interesting list. I've only read one on your list, but it's on my list of Top 5 Books Of All Time - the Poisonwood Bible. Definitely find the time to read that one!

  18. Oh, that's a great list! I think you will love The Master and Margarita, it has been one of my favorites for a long time. It's a really beautiful book, with a lot of interesting themes. I hope you get to read it soon!

  19. The only one I've read on this list is Poisonwood. It was FANTASTIC! I really wish I could relive that feeling of reading it for the first time. What a great idea this is! I may have to come up with a book bucket list myself. :)

  20. I would have a hard time putting a list like this together without some series thought...but Poisonwood Bible is definitely one I want to read! I also want to read a Wilkie Collins book.

Into the Wilderness was good, but nothing amazing for me. I've read the entire series, except for the newest one or 2...

  21. I'd put The Master and Margarita on my list, too (thanks to Matt) and am currently reading The Woman in White. I've also read The Poisonwood Bible (very good, but not a must read before you die for me) and The Garden of Eden (my favorite Hemingway). I'll have to think about my 10...I like this idea!

  22. What a cool idea! I've got to think about this!! I would probably go with lots of mind candy books and entertainment to be honest!!!

  23. I loved the Woman in White and hated Poisonwood Bible. To be fair, most people liked it. I wouldn't know where to start with a list like this.

  24. I think #2, 3, and 7 are excellent choices!

  25. Diane,

I've read three on your list and have four others on my TBR mountain, so I'd say your list is excellent!
