Sunday Salon - Cha Cha Cha Chia and other Post Holiday Stuff

Hope everyone who celebrated Christmas had a great holiday.  It's always fun to get together with family, but then there is that part of me that just likes hanging out and doing nothing for a couple of days afterward....yesterday and today are those days.  Did you eat too much like us?

Did everyone seem happy with the gifts you gave and received?   The gifts that were big hits (given and/or received) were: gift cards to the Apple store, Best Buy, Amazon, Urban Outfitters, a Dell mini netbook, Pandora Beads, Mikasa wine glasses , Polish Pottery coffee mugs, and  (2) Keurig Special Edition coffee brewers.  That was for the human family members, but for the feline members the hit was.....yes  Cha Cha Cha Cia Cat Grass Planter. ($17.99 for this cheap looking planter and a package of oat/wheat grass seeds...LOL)

The planter is made from ceramic and has a cat on it. (looks a bit like our Lilly!) It comes with just the right amount of potting soil and one pack of seeds.  The only thing it does not come with is the plastic they ask you to over it with after you plant your seeds. About 3 days after planting, the grass started popping through the soil and yesterday, about 10 days after the initial planting this is how it turned out!

This is Freckles the cat, who is part goat I think, (he likes to eat our Christmas cactus, most plants really, toilet paper, wrapping paper, and then vomit afterward).  Freckles seems thrilled with the Chia Grass, and gets a few nibbles each day and then we hide it. The other cats are not as interested, but if it keeps Freckles away from our other plants then I guess I don't feel too bad about the $18.00...LOL

Do you have any plans for the last week of the year?  I plan to finalize my posts for new challenges beginning on January 1, and also do a post on my Top 10 Picks for 2009. I also hope to finish one book and read 2 more this week.

That's all for now.  Have a great Sunday.

  2. I want to do a recap post for 2009 before the end of the year.... or maybe January 1... not sure yet. I have been blogging seriously now since June so this would be like a 6 month overview.

    Oh - love the Chia!

  3. Yesterday and today are my 'recovery' days, too...didn't even leave the house yesterday! Love your gift hit-list. Urban Outfitters, Pandora beads, and Keurigs are all popular in our house!

A new books post will hopefully get written later today, and then several wrap-up and resolution posts later this week. Enjoy your Sunday!

  5. Such a cute kitty! Orange cats are my favorite, and out of the 3 cats that I have... none of them are orange. Haha.

  6. Love the Chia pet! I remember I got one of those for my birthday when I was ten, and I thought it was going to be SO COOL but of course it died straight away and never grew at all. Just one of many early indications that gardening wasn't going to be my thing. :P

  7. I didn't know that cats would nibble on something like that. We have two cats, but we don't have any house plants (because I kill them) so I don't know if ours would be prone to nibble. Neat idea for your cat though!

  10. Good haul! I'd like to know what you think about the netbook. I've been thinking of getting one, but I can't make up my mind.

  11. Too cute! Our dog got treats and a Snuggie. She loved the treats, but didn't care too much for the Snuggie. We had a nice relaxing day and everyone seemed pleased with their gifts.

  12. Bookmarked that Polish pottery site immediately. Just love that stuff (much more than Chia pets I must admit :) ). Happy reading!

  13. Great gifts! I wonder if we got our cat that, if she would stop eating my plants! Might be worth a shot :)

  14. OMG, those Cha-Cha-Cha-Chia ads are legendary this time of year!

    Cute photos.

This is the end of my first official blogging year...even though I had one blog last year, I didn't do much with it.

So I'm looking forward to reading everyone's end-of-year posts.

  15. Wow! Sounds like everyone had a pretty good Chritmas at your house. I wonder if my kitty would like that grass planter. She's an indoor cat so I'm not sure she'd know what to do with it!

I think I'm spending my last week of December working on my bookshelves and reading.

  16. I definitely ate too much. LOL Much like you, my yesterday and today are quiet and do-nothing days. Well, do nothing but read just about. And maybe get the laundry done.

I hope you have a great week. I hope to get my top 10 list up on the 31st. That's the plan anyway. Guess I'd better start thinking about that.

  17. Cooper sounds a lot like Freckles, even though he's a dog! He adores eating tissues, fresh grass and fallen leaves. Lucky for us he doesn't usually throw the stuff back up!

  18. Stephanie....The Dell mini netbook is very fun. it is incredibly light weight, but the screen is so small that you are forever scrolling down to read or look at something. Perfect for a travel computer, but IMO, not good for using hour after hour after hour. i bought it for my husband, and he thinks it is great, but I prefer my 15" Dell laptop for everyday use.

  19. aw, Freckles is so cute!

I am really looking forward to your top reads of the year. It's so fun to see what everyone liked best and of course my wish list just grows and grows :)

  20. My cats like to eat my Christmas cactus also. One of them actually lays down in it because the plant is so huge.
I will probably spend the week relaxing since I don't teach this week. I will post to my blog for the year end stuff at some point. Enjoy your presents.

  22. Wow! What great presents you got! Enjoy them!!! And I love the Chia for the cats ... what a great idea! I'm sure the rest of the house plants are feeling relief!!!

  23. Everyone got nice presents...great choices on the gift cards! I had no idea they had Chia pets for pets, hah! That's too cute.

  24. I am now singing the Chia Pet theme song..thank you very much!!! I like the lazy days after Christmas too!! In fact, I'm still in lazy mode!

  25. You got some great gifts! For a minute I thought that you were excited over your OWN Chia Pet but I see that it is of the feline variety. Haha!

And yes...we ate too much. I am in a food coma.

  26. I am chuckling over the chia. My youngest son got a chia head thing and he can't wait to get it growing. LOL! As for the fur kid, her favorite present was a stuffed gorilla that makes ape type noises. I wonder how long it'll take her to kill the noise mechanism in it (and am hoping for sooner rather than later!).

  27. I've always wondered "who buys those chia pets?" Now I know! :)

Looking forward to another great year! Hope it is wonderful for you, too.
