Let's Talk About 2009 and 2010 Reading Challenges
How did you do in 2009? Did you set realistic goals, and have you met them? What are your Challenge plans for 2010?
In 2009, I signed up for 20 challenges, and have completed (16). I'm hoping to complete at least 3 more by the 31st, so I am pretty pleased with my results
I was hoping to limit myself to (5) challenges to start off 2010, but I have very little NO willpower. So I signed up for (10). I hope to spend some time over the next week finalizing some choices for some of these challenges (love doing that).
- The Complete Booker for 2010 (Winners Circle - 6 Books)
- Audio Book Challenge - 2010 (20 Books)
- The Chunkster Challenge for 2010 (Mor-Book-ly Obese - 6 Books)
- New Authors Challenge for 2010 - (50 New Authors)
- Books To Read Before I Die - 2010 (20 - Books)
- Reading From My Shelves Project - 2010 (75 - Books)
- 100+ Reading Challenge - 2010
- Support Your Local Library - 2010 (50 Books)
- Thriller and Suspense Challenge - 2010 (12 - Books)
- ARC Reading Challenge - 2010 (25+ Books)
How about you?
I'm embarrassed as to how many I did not complete. But as with all New Year's resolutions...I'm going to do better in 2010!!
ReplyDelete10, holy moley, 10 - hats off to you, girl! You did really well in 2009.Your Read from your own Shelves and the chunkster 2010challenge are all I need. In fact I am really looking forward to your challenge and hope to free up some space. Good luck with all your new ones.
ReplyDeleteI was late to join reading challenges, and have decided to limit myself to "less demanding" challenges, even though I love doing them and connecting with other book bloggers.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, welcome to the ARC challenge! I'm glad your joining us.
ReplyDeleteI decided to enter 5 challenges this year. This is my first attempt at challenges and I'm excited. They are all Royal Review Challenges.
ReplyDelete1.) E-book Challenge (obsessed 20)
2.) Audio Book Challenger (obsessed 20)
3.) Romance Challenge (obsessed 20)
4.) 1st In A Series Challenge (obssessed 20)
5.) Historical Fiction Challenge (obsessed 20)
LOL... we'll see how I survive.
You did very well with your reading challenges this year, Diane, especially considering how many you joined!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with this next year's challenges!
Wow, it sounds like you're great at challenges! Good luck with the new ones.
ReplyDeleteI have no willpower when it comes to challenges. I joined 31 for 09. Most of them are finished except for 1 that I know I will not finish, 4 will end up being 1/2 finished, one is a perpetual challenge and one ends in 1-31. It does not bother me in the least to leave a challenge unfinished, it has been too much fun.
ReplyDeleteYou have joined some wonderful challenges! I am still considering the Thriller and Suspense challenge and I should join the Reading from my Shelves project :)
ReplyDeleteSome day - when I have a bit more free time to devote to personal reading - I will join the Chunkster challenge. So many good thick books that I want to read.
I so relate!!! I told myself I was going to only sign up for 5 but I'm signed up for 10 -- including yours! (My post is coming.) They are just too addictive. But I think you have a really impressive completion rate so you should be fine!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great list. I hadn't seen the Chunkster Challenge for 2010 so thanks for posting it. I'm signing up right now.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
Wow! You have done brilliantly in your challenges this year! I have made a promise to myself to try not to get too caught up in challenge reading in 2010 - but I'm sure there will be some that I can't resist.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, welcome to the Thriller & Suspense challenge. Can't wait to see your book choices. Should be fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you decided to join The Complete Booker 2010 challenge! I'm looking forward to following your reading.
ReplyDeleteI didn't complete all of my 2009 challenges, but I had fun trying! I did increase the amount of books I usually read and I read a larger variety of books. I think that was my ultimate goal, the challenges were just way to help me get there.
ReplyDeleteI also have already signed up for way too many challenges in 2010. I haven't listed them all in one place yet... I'm scared to see what I have signed up for. :-)
I'm trying to select and narrow down challenges this week...so many good ones to choose from!!
ReplyDeleteHi, Diane! I'm quite embarrassed to mention that I didn't participate in any book challenges this year. But, hopefully, I'll find a challenge that best suits my reading tastes, which has been very erratic more recently.
ReplyDeleteLOL Good luck at your challenges!!
ReplyDeleteI put up my embarassing Challenge post also.
Great list of challenges. I think I am giving up on challenges in 2010. I am pitifully horrible at them.
ReplyDeleteI've never done a challenge before. I do belong to a 50 Books A Year group on Goodreads but that is really more just a place to keep track of what I've read and it is an unobtainable goal for me - I'll have about 30 this year. But each year it is more than the previous one so that's all I care about. I like chunksters - the quality of books and the amount of pages matters more to me than the # of books or challenges. Looking forward to seeing your selections and reviews. I love your smiley faces to denote your opionions on them.
ReplyDeleteYou amaze me!! Congrats you your success & best of luck with this year!
ReplyDeleteYou did great with your 2009 challenges Diane. I didn't realize you had signed on for so many. lol. I have no willpower either and I'm sure I'll sign on for a few more for 2010 yet. Good luck with all of yours!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I live in FL. But I have lived and worked in NY,VT,MD,MA,NH. Before 1990 I trained and raced harness horses and spent time at most of the racetracks in the NE. No more freezing fingers, toes or noses...now a night in the 30's is only a nuisance if I am on the boat for awhile...

I read most anything..especially if I run out of books. Perfer Tom Clancey & Louis L'Amour, but when I run out...I read whatever I can find..nothing too heavy though. I like the outdoors and intrigue. If it's got it...then I read on. We've no TV on the boat so we open books in the evening.

I got so bogged down this year that I just ended up giving up on all my challenges. Next year I promise to be different!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful list of 2010 reading challenges. Thanks for the links.
ReplyDeleteDo Participate the more the merrier.
ReplyDeleteYou signed up for some great ones! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your challenges. I am in three at this time...wonder if I will cave and do either the Chunkster or the Outlander or both..... Again...good luck.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with those! I have yet to think about challenges for next year. Still working on this year's. :)
ReplyDeleteI started blogging in February and learned about challenges sometime in late spring. I participated in two. Two that I knew I could complete with ease. The new author challenge and the support your local library challenge. I finished both a few months ago. I'm not sure I'm going to participate in any challenges in 2010. I'm still thinking about it. Is there a blog that lists all the challenges? How do you find them?
ReplyDeletePam,
ReplyDeleteYahoo Groups - A Novel Challenge - has a database which lists all the pending challenges for 2010. Hope that helps.
Wow, that's a lot of challenges. Congrats on 2009 and good luck in 2010.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year signing up for challenges. I think I am going to do 4 or 5, but take it easy on the amount in each challenge. I am really looking forward to it and am so pleased that you did such a great job with yours!
ReplyDeleteOoooooooh... that's quite a bit there that you've signed up. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI didn't do so great in 2009, but I think I've planned better for 2010. No challenges that do not allow overlap for one thing! We have 5 challenges in common so I guess our paths will be crossing throughout 2010. See ya 'round the blogoshpere. =)
ReplyDeleteLOLOL! I OD'ed on reading challenges in 2009. It was my year for it. I didn't do too bad considering I signed up for close to 40. ;) This year, I'm not stressing. Kicking back and doing whatever my mood dictates are far as reading goes.
ReplyDeleteI have no willpower for challenges either. I think I am signed up for 7 so far and hope I don't find any more!
ReplyDeleteI am participating in more challenges than you, never fear! Good luck in yours!
ReplyDeleteI'm at 11 and counting...haven't posted all of them yet. With overlaps I still need 82 books; if I do them all w/no duplications, I'd need 187 ---NOT Happening...
ReplyDeleteWe have five that we're both in so far, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll be putting on your lists.
Enjoy the holidays and the challenge preps.
Great choices and the very best of luck 0:)
ReplyDeleteAlas you have reminded me of two more I just have to join (support your library and chunkster) and one I hadn't discovered (The Complete Booker).
And I thought I'd shown such restraint..!
