Musing Mondays

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about the read-a-thon…

Are you planning on participating in the upcoming 24 Hour Read-a-thon (either as a reader or cheerleader)? Have you made any preparations for the event? And, veterans out there, any tips you’d like to share with the newbies?

This is my first 24 Hour Read-a-Thon, and I am really looking forward to it.  I also plan to spend some time doing a little cheer leading, and I know I'll need a nap as well.

Here are some of the books that I hope to read during the 24 hours. The best part is that they all reside on my bookshelf.  I figure if I run out of books from this pile, then I give myself a medal and call it a day...LOL

  1. I'm signed up to participate, but teh Boston Book Fest is the same day so I don't know how much time I'll really have. I may do my own read athon the following weekend, or at least cheer you all on! :-)

  2. Looks like some good October reads -- have fun! I have the whole collection of Nancy Drew books, and a few of the older ones with dust jackets.

The ND books up to The Ghost of Blackwood Hall were written by the original author (Mildred Benson) -- two other authors followed under her name. The last author didn't seem to write as interesting stories.

  4. I really, really wish I could participate but I happen to be working that weekend. I'll just have to wait until another 24 hour read-a-ton comes up. I wish you luck though. :)

  6. I'm not signing up this year because I'll be in Salt Lake City at the Book Festival. I wish I lived near Boston so I could go with Marie.

I think your list looks good - a variety so you can trade off. I had fun last year.

  7. I'm not signing up because I can't imagine reading more than 2 books at most in any one day, even if I stayed up all night! :--) But I hope to be around cheering people on!

  9. If I had Shirley Jackson in my pile, I'd have to read it early one; no Shirley Jackson at 2 a.m. for me!

I loved Nancy Drew when I was young. Never could get my daughter into them, sadly.

  12. Hurray!! You'll have so much fun (and visiting other blogs is as much fun as reading, I think). I'm really envying your copy of Half Broke Horses!!

And the bigger your stack to pull from the better--my first read-a-thon I didn't make a big enough stack and had to tear through the shelves looking for suitable read-a-thon material (light light light!).

  13. Haunting of Hill House is a fave of mine & I absolutely adore John Connelly. I'm doing the read-a-thon, too. I have 2 YA series to read & a bunch of other stuff including a yummy new cookbook full of gorgeous pictures!

  16. Excellent choices - I love Nancy Drew and have The Haunting of Hill House on the top of my tbr pile. Unfortunately, this is Parent's weekend so I'll miss the read-a-thon.

  17. The only 'thon' I have participated in is a thirty hour famine. I still vividly recall the event and how delicious pizza tasted after.

Best wishes to the sleep deprived but imagination rich participants.
