I recently introduced you to Buddy and Freckles this week. Today Buddy spent most of his day trying to pee in the little box, but nothing was happening. The first think I thought of was "urinary blockage, 8 y/old neutered male cat). My daughter's cat (also named Buddy) had the same problem 2 years ago. Since our cats have not been seen by a vet here since we moved 5.5 months ago, I was fortunately, to find a vet to see him at 6pm this evening (Columbus Day). As I suspected he is blocked and in some pain, so they have to keep him 2-3 days, sedate him, catheterize him, and unblock him. I was shocked to learn it is going to cost about $1,000 as well!!! Of course my husband did not hesitate to say "put it on a credit card", but what is a pet owner to do when they are part of your family. If one of our cats had cancer (God Forbid) we most probably would not put them through any treatments, but this hopefully can be fixed and managed. I felt so bad leaving him as he buried his head into my sweater and was shaking :( - So let's hope this is an easy fix, and Buddy will be back home with us soon.....Keep you posted.
You saw Freckles (in the Amazon Box)---no they did not ship him..LOL and I though I'd share pictures of the last (2) fur balls that reside with us:
Libby, is a 12 year old Calico, the alpha cat, and senior citizen around here. She's is good shape, still loves to chase play mice. She's become an indoor only cat these last 1.5 years after she used up 8 of her 9 lives. She was missing for 14 days when we went on vacation, and our neighbor was watching our pets. Suddenly, the day after we came home she suddenly showed up...Thank goodness as she is my husband's favorite. Here she is:
And last by certainly not least Lily, age 7, the cat we would love to have cloned. She is the sweetest, most lovable cat, and loves to be warm. She finds her way under comforters, bedspreads, rugs etc when ever she is cold, and will always manage to find the (1) sunniest spot to nap. She's very petite, just 7lbs and gets along with everyone and likes people too. She is truly one of a kind.
How could anyone abuse animals is beyond me. (In my next life I want to come back as someone's "much loved" housecat :)
Have a nice evening everyone!
Aw, poor fuzz fuzz. I hope he feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to be owned by a small black house deity my own self. He is soft & warm & makes sure we're all doing what we're supposed to do.
Great pics of your own little house deities!
Aww - I hope Buddy recovers quickly. Our dog is very much a part of our family so I know exactly how you feel.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry...I hope all is well soon. The hardest part has got to be leaving them behind. Our dog always seems to know and likes to give 'the look'. You have the cutest bunch of kitties:)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I hope Buddy feels better soon. I hate it when our furkids get under the weather.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to Buddy for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet your cats are! I'm a cat person, but I'm definitely also a dog person. I love to read with my pets nearby. :)
Poor Buddy! I hope his stay at the vet and treatment go well. Vet work does cost a lot, doesn't it? But they really are a part of our family and it's hard to think about that when they're suffering and there's a treatment out there that can make them better.
ReplyDeleteYou have such beautiful cats, Diane!
Oh, I hope your cat is feeling better soon. I have two and it's not fun when they're not well.
ReplyDeleteSpeedy recovery wishes to Buddy! Thanks for sharing your other kitty friends with us. :)
ReplyDeleteYour kitties are lovely!
ReplyDeleteI only have one but I sure know what they can mean to their owner :)
Hope Buddy will feel better soon!
I hope Buddy feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteI love cats and so happy to be introduced to your family of them.
Beautiful cats-my main blogging helper is our 18 year old Siamese Charles-he either likes sitting with me or he likes the fact our lap top heats up-I hope so much all of your cats are well-my family have been cat lovers for a very long time-
ReplyDeleteI hope Buddy gets well soon - I adore cats and I have a one year old tabby called Etienne who is my absolute baby. He is the most spoilt cat in the world.
ReplyDeleteYour cats are all beautiful. Keep us posted on Buddy's progress.
I hope Buddy is home and feeling good soon. We had that problem with one of our cats many years ago and it was expensive but he recovered and has never had the problem again. He has strangeritis so it was quite traumatic. We know exactly how you feel. We are sending good thoughts to you and Buddy!
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful cats!
Very adorable family! I hope Buddy feels better soon. It's so hard when they are sick. They can't even tell us how they feel!
ReplyDeleteLezlie
Your cats are beautiful - especially Libby, I'm a sucker for calico cats. I grew into a cat allergy as an adult, so after my childhood cat died, I haven't been able to have another. :(
ReplyDeleteI hope Buddy does well. This is so common in male cats, due to the highly concentrated and crystalized nature of cat urine and the small urethra in male cats. My Mom had this issue with two cats (she had four males and a female). I haven't had the problem (fingers-crossed, I have four females and a male). Good wishes heading Buddy's way! (I had a cat named Buddy once. He was my boy.)
ReplyDeleteI hope Buddy gets better soon. Vets are just so expensive. I have to buy arthritis tablets for my dog every month and they cost £50!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your pics of your lovely cats.
Oh that poor kitty! At least it looks like he is going to have a cushy day relaxing in bed.
ReplyDeleteHope your kitty gets better soon!

Oh no, poor Buddy. My heart hurts for you having to leave him there. I know how that feels and it just tears you up. He's in the best place though as they'll be able to help him.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean by the cost-it's crazy and like you my pet is my family. I've spent close to what you have in the last month with my Buddy being sick but I don't regret it. He's my baby.
Thanks for sharing all your furkids with us. They're all beautiful. Many prayers going out to Buddy for a speedy recovery.
I'm sorry about Buddy being under the weather and egads...$1000!!! Holy cow! The rest of your kitty clan is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI hope Buddy is feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteCute pics of the other cats :)
I sure hope your buddy is feeling better soon. Have a sick fur baby is never fun. My Daisy dog had a seizure today and threw up all over. This is the first she's had in 3 years and I was so hopeful she'd outgrown them. Sadly I think it's off to the vet for us again and back on the stronger meds we were trying to wean her off of. :-(
ReplyDeleteOh, the cat pictures are adorable! And poor Buddy, you can see his discomfort.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that health insurance isn't available for our pets!
That calico reminds me of one we had a few years ago...a female we called Cleopatra, which described her perfectly.
Sending some good health vibes for Buddy! Hope he feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteAwww... poor little guy! Hope he feels better!!!
ReplyDeleteI think Buddy is lucky to have someone like you in his life!!! And now I'm unsure how many cats you have total -- 5?
ReplyDeleteHey Jenners, We have (4) cats total.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for sending your good wishes Buddy's way. He is still at the Vets and they had to re-cath him as he managed to take his cone collar off and pull the cath out last night, and he can't pee on his own yet....I'll get an update tomorrow afternoon.
Ahhh... poor Buddy! Hope he is better soon!
ReplyDeleteawwww...they are too cute.
ReplyDeletehope buddy feels better and comes home soon.

I'm so sorry to hear about Buddy. We have 3 cats, and I know how hard it can be when one of your animals is ill. I am going to be saying a prayer for Buddy, and hope that he will be coming home fully recovered very soon.
ReplyDelete$1000?! Of course, they have you over a barrel when the cat's in pain and you're already there. That's love!
ReplyDeleteWe went through this with Claudius when he was just shy of 3 years old. I think our vet bill was over a thousand as well. We wound up having to take him back in once a day for about a day so that he could be "expressed" since we couldn't tell if he was going on his own. And then he had to be boarded for a weekend when we had to go out of state. . .
ReplyDeleteHope Buddy feels better soon!
*hugs* you and Buddy will be in my thoughts. One of my cats had kidney stones recently and gave me quite a scare, so I know the feeling! Hopefully he will get better.
ReplyDeleteHope Buddy is back home with you by now! All your kittens look so sweet and lovable - lucky you!
ReplyDeleteoh, poor Buddy! We had a cat several years ago who had kidney failure. I didn't know this at the time, but apparently my mom put him through several treatments of dialysis before his kidneys just gave out and we had to put him down. I hope Buddy has a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteYour other kitties are all lovely, too. I'd love a houseful of cats, but my Maggie is enough to handle. :)
