My First 24 Hour Read-a-Thon

I never knew Dewey nor did I frequent her blog. I believe she passed away before my blogging became an obsession.  I do know, from everything I've heard, that she was someone special, who is deeply missed.

I also, never participated in a 24-hour Read-a-Thon, but I figured why not join in the fun. It's only sleep I'll be losing!  I signed up today, and I'm now thinking about what to read. I KNOW for sure it will be MOSTLY  mystery related --especially since it's the weekend before Halloween--, and perhaps I'll throw in just (1) review book.

Are you planning to participate?  Have you made a list?

Details: The October 2009 Read-a-thon is just 15 days away. The Read-a-Thon will start: October 24th at 5am Pacific (1pm GMT). You can click over to the start times page to check the starting time in your timezone. Remember that if it’s more convenient to you, you could  start either earlier or later, as well as participate for only part of the 24 hours. Very few people make it through the entire 24-hour period without sleeping, so don’t let that discourage you! Sleep is definitely allowed

So don't hesitate another minute. If I can lose a little sleep, so can you LOL.

  1. Holy cow, Diane! Good luck, and I'll think of you every time my snoring wakes me up.

  4. Yay!!! You are going to have so much fun. Just think of what you'll accomplish. I was actually not that tired until the 22nd hour but then called it a night because my eyes could no longer see the words on the page.

  5. I'll be losing sleep right along with you:) My list is short this time around. It will be the perfect time for mystery reads...enjoy!

  6. I'm participating for the first time too - I've had scheduling conflicts every time before this. I have no idea how much of the 24 hours I'll actually make it through, but I'm excited about it and planning my reading!

    Good luck!

  8. This sounds like so much fun, but Oct. 24 is not a good time for me to read, read, read (we've a birthday to celebrate). Enjoy!

  9. Whee! I signed up too for my first time a week or so ago. I'm ridiculously excited.

I recently collected all of 2 favorite YA series (The Dark is Rising & The Prydain Chronicles) that are on the top of the pile for the read-a-thon. Can't wait!

  13. Wow, it's hard to believe that you (and so many other book bloggers now) didn't know Dewey. I was just starting this book blogging stuff when the first Read-a-thon took place and my unofficial cheerleading is probably what got me started with a few of my blogging buddies. It's so cool to see that her idea is still thriving even now. As for me, I've participated as a cheerleader but never as a reader. I was lurking at the edge of signing up to read, and I think you pushed me over! Now I get to go make a list! =)

  14. I am going to participate. Still deciding if I am going to be a cheerleader only or cheerleader/reader. It is so much fun, glad that you are joining in.

  15. Good call on not including more than one review copy. This is a great excuse to read TBR or library books.

  23. This will be the second read-a-thon I'm particpating in, and I'll say that it was sooo easy for me to wake up early to get started... after all, it was for something I love doing (reading)!

I can't wait for this one and I know you will have fun.

  26. I'm going to participate, but I don't know how much because the 24th is also the Boston Book Festival and the 25th will likewise be a busy and important day for me. But we'll see. I'll cheer you on in any case! :-)

  28. Wow, this sounds like a really great event. I'll be babysitting my youngest grandson that weekend...don't think the reading 24/7 would work out with him there!

Good luck and I'll be looking forward to hearing about it.

  29. The read-a-thon is fun. I'm still deciding whether to participate this year or not. I was waiting to see what happens with puppy. If he gets sick and keeps me up all night the day before I'm toast. I think I will sign up anyway though and read what I can. I'm looking forward to your reading list.

  31. Have fun with the read-a-thon! I'm going to be out of town on a business trip so I won't be able to participate, but you can bet I'll be blog-hopping throughout!

  32. This sounds like so much fun but I just can't decide if I have 24 hours to devote to reading followed by 24 hours needed to recover from 24 hours without sleep!

  33. Yes, Dewey was very special.

So glad you're participating. It's wonderful fun, and I definitely recommend at least a 2-3 hour nap.

  34. So glad you'll be doing the read-a-thon! This will be my fourth and I seriously look forward to them from the day the last one ends. :) Mysteries are a great choice, by the way.
