Sunday Salon - October 11th

Not much new to report but I did order a few new books which arrived this week. Amazon had a buy 2 books get 1 free promotion last week and I believe it's still going on. There are about 17 pages of titles to chose from.  Here is what arrived on Saturday:

I went a little Murakami crazy.  I enjoyed, After Dark, the first book that I read by him, so I ordered (3) more titles that were eligible for this promotion : Norwegian Wood, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, and Kafka on the Shore.  Then I also chose The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood, as I had won a $10.00 Amazon Gift Certificate from April @ Cafe of Dreams in a September Giveaway. (Thanks April).

.......Oh, and that long haired ball of fur is BUDDY. He is 8 years old, and frankly he's kind of like my shadow. He's a bit whiny and insecure, but makes a great lap cat, likes to read books with me, and also enjoys computer time. He is really very sweet...LOL

Today I hope to get my stack of books together for the 24 Hour Read-a-Thon. I know some of you have already posted your stacks, and I have some lighter reads in mind for when my eyes get very tired.  I also plan to get out for a while if the weather is nice.  That's about it really, except that I will be getting an early birthday present from my husband soon (my birthday is not until December).  My lips are zipped, but I know what it is and I'll post a picture and write more once it arrives.

Have a great week everyone? Have any fun plans?

  1. I would love to hit the 2 for 1 sale, but have so many books stacked around my house right now that I know it wouldn't be taken well by the other inhabitants of my household. :) It's very tempting though.

  2. I love Birthday presents - early or otherwise! My Birthday is in Decemeber too so I might have to convince my partner he should get me an early present. Looking forward to seeing/hearing about yours...

  3. Buy two get one free? Definitely the way to my heart. After Dark was my first Murakami as well... I may follow your lead in ordering some of his works!

    And Buddy is adorable!

  5. Be interested to hear about the Murakami books, as Japanese authors are something I know very little about.

    'Buddy' is gorgeous!

I gave you a blog award over on my blog. :-)

  8. (I hope this isn't a double comment...my first seems to have been gobbled up.) Any cat that will cuddle with books is sweet:) Enjoy your new reads and I look forward to seeing your read-a-thon stack.

  12. Don't tempt me! I'm in a book buying mood and any little temptation can send me over the edge. LOL

I haven't yet read anything by Murakami but I have a couple of his books in my TBR collection to try.

    Buddy is adorable. :-)

I hope you have a great week, Diane.

  16. I had a hard time making sense of The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I didn't hate it, but I felt like there was a lot of extra nonsensical stuff thrown in. Plus, Murakami was in the annoying habit of calling the reader's attention to these odd details like they meant something when they never did. It felt like the book was full of dead ends.

Also, a warning: There is a VERY graphic torture-death scene in a WWII story told by one of the supporting characters to the protagonist. I don't know how sensitive you are, but it nearly made me physically nauseous.

  17. I'm thinking your b-day gift is something handheld!! I may have to check out that sale but honestly I need more books like I need more holes in my head!! Buddy looks very sweet!!

  18. I love buying books and what could be better than 2 for 1. I have a whole pile of books I want to buy but I've been holding off for lack of anywhere to put them. lol.

I didn't realize you had a Buddy. He is beautiful-I love black cats.

Hope you had a wonderful Sunday Diane.

  19. The only Murakami I have read was The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, and I remember liking it a lot. That was before I started my blog and began reviewing, so it's a little hard to remember all the finer points. I am planning on doing a little Amazon shopping soon, so I am glad to hear they are having a promotion.
